Day hikings

With the exception of the city tour, all the excursions below offer the chance to discover landscapes of exceptional beauty and originality. The hikes are not physically demanding: all you need are good walking shoes, a hat and sun cream!

1.       Visit to the town of Lushoto (90 minutes)

Depart from your hotel to discover the local market, the first prison built by the Germans at the beginning of the 20th century and still in use, and other colonial and religious buildings constructed during this period.

2.       Walk to Irente View Point (3-4 hours)

Depart from your hotel for a walk through villages and fields. Arriving at the viewpoint, you can admire the plain with its rice paddies and sisal fields as far as the eye can see.

It is possible to organize this excursion to enjoy the sunset. The return journey is by public transport.

3.       Magamba rainforest (5-6 hours)

You’ll discover the village of Magamba, the surrounding fields and learn about the different Shambaa and Kilindi ethnic groups, before climbing the mountain to the Magamba rainforest. As you make your way through this forest, you’ll see chameleons, colobus monkeys and blue monkeys. You’ll also pass the cave in which German soldiers took refuge in 14-18. Arriving at the summit, you’ll have an exceptional view of Lushoto and the opportunity to enjoy a local meal before returning down another path.

4.       Kisasa waterfall (3 hours)

To reach this recently-discovered waterfall, you’ll have to cross various plantations and forests. The waterfall is quite imposing but, unlike the Mkuzi waterfall, has no basin for bathing. Enjoy a local meal by the waterfall before returning to your hotel.

5.       Mkuzi waterfall (6 – 7 hours)

You start from Magamba, crossing fields and forests until you reach the waterfall. Enjoy a local meal before returning to Migambo and taking public transport back to your hotel.

These destinations can be combined

1.       Magamba rainforest and Kisasa waterfall (6-7 hours)

2.       Magamba rainforest and Irente view point (6-7 hours)

3.       Magamba rainforest and Mkuzi waterfall (7-8 hours)

4.       Kisasa waterfall and Irente view point (5-6 hours)
