There are many tour companies in Tanzania. Il Maasai Hero Tours is a local agency, without intermediaries. We know personally and hire directly all our staff, whether they are guides, drivers, cooks or porters.
We know all the hotels and activities we offer our clients. This way we guarantee a special quality of service, both in terms of people and infrastructure.
There are two directors. The first one, Edgar, is a Maasai who worked for more than ten years for the big agencies before opening his own. His first concern will be to make you discover his origins, his country with its landscapes and its wild animals, as close as possible to his sensitivity and respect for the environment.
The second one, Laure, is a Swiss woman. She takes care of the administrative part of the agency: the elaboration of your dream tour, the flight and hotel reservations, as well as the good progress of the trip on the spot.
Our tour company offers the possibility to stay in a Maasai village to see first-hand their way of life.
Edgar is a Masai, who grew up in the culture and rituals of the Masai today. He speaks their language, knows how to care for the herds, sing, dance, and share their meals made of fresh cow’s milk and blood. He recognizes medicinal plants and herbs which allow the Maasai to cure ailments. He also knows the difficulties of his nomadic tribe who struggle to preserve their land for their herds. Indeed, they are now often being ejected from their land to make way for new roads or new parks for tourists …
We offer you the opportunity to experience the authentic life of a Maasai village for two or three days – away from the tourist circuits. You will sleep in tents and live at their pace. This allows you to discover the houses of the Maasai, what they eat, how they take care of their animals, what plants they use to heal themselves, what their beliefs are, the meanings of their dances or their jewelry. Among others.
While nature and animals are fascinating, respect for the ecosystem and the tranquility of animals is a priority.
As the logo illustrates, the Maasais are the only tribe in East Africa to live in harmony with nature, represented by Kilimanjaro, and animals, symbolized by the emblematic representatives of the Big Five: lions and elephants. They live among them, are familiar with their presence and never seek to be stronger or hunt them.
You will have the opportunity with Il Maasai Hero Tours to discover the Big Five (lions, elephants, rhinos, buffaloes and leopards), as well as wildebeest, zebras, giraffes, gazelles, birds, and the luxuriant flora. However, Il Maasai Hero Tours does not go off authorized paths, turn off the engine as soon as possible, congregate in several cars around two animals or travel miles to see an animal. ll Maasai Hero Tours is also particularly fond of Lake Natron where you can discover the flora and fauna up close and on foot.
This region, which is less touristy than the Serengeti or the Ngorongoro Crater, allows you to walk among the zebras and wildebeest on the lake shore or in a river to reach a basin and bathe. These activities are valuable to vary the occupations during the stay “safari”.
Il Maasai Hero Tours is also particularly interested in the Usambara Mountains, whose main town is Lushoto. This is a great place for hiking.
This mountain range stretches for just over 100 kilometers in the north-east of the country, reaching an altitude of 2,300 meters. We recommend a stay of three to six days, either for a day hike or a 4-day tour, to discover the flora, landscapes and close contact with the local people.
A safari – Usambara Mountains combination offers a diversified approach to Tanzania’s riches.
Zanzibar
If you wish to spend a few days on the beaches of Zanzibar, the hotels we propose are eco-responsible and treat their staff with respect.
In Zanzibar, we offer two options:
– Crisscross the island, staying one or more nights in Stonetown, in Nungwi in the North, Jambiani or Paje in the East and Kizimkazi in the South.
– After one or two nights in Stonetown, you will leave for one of the three other cardinal points of the island and will then put down your bags for the duration of your stay.
Hiking
Similarly, if you choose to climb Kilimanjaro, or Mount Meru, your guides are environmentally friendly and are paid a decent wage.
Il Maasai Hero Tours also organizes trekking tours to climb Kilimanjaro, Mount Meru or Mount Ol Doinyo Lengai on Lake Natron.
We offer three routes to climb Kilimanjaro: Machame, Marangu or Lemosho. These three routes are done in 6 to 8 days depending on the wishes and physical needs of the clients. The nights are either in tents or in huts, depending on the route chosen.
The Umbwe and Rongai routes are also interesting and can be organized with our agency.
